Chester

The Duchess is not a fickle woman. However, she falls in love easily and must constantly guard her heart. She has a terrible disorder that compels her to touch, kiss, smell and cuddle every puppy she sees. A smile from a Golden Retriever can reduce her to a blubbering puddle of "want". It is disturbing, to say the least. Fortunately, she is aware of her problem and can keep her armor on most of the time. BUT sometimes shes forgets and we have to scrape her off of the pavement. So, here is what happened. . .

There was a mix up in the reservations at Lake Roosevelt so the campers had to leave a day earlier than planned. Not wanting to go home, the Skipper called his sister, Lady Jill, who has a boat house in a private marina somewhere on the way home. (A boat house is not the same thing as a house boat - my poor Duchess took some time figuring this out! She may not be the brightest crayon in the box but she's MY crayon so I love her anyway.)

Upon arrival the Duchess was thrilled to be able to park on the grass and have an electrical hook up too!

She was so enthralled with the surroundings that she let her guard down - only for an instant. Well, I ask you, how long does it take to make eye contact with a very large dog? One look and she was a goner. My poor Duchess fell head over heels before she even knew what hit her.

Meet Chester -

Chester is part Labrador Retriever and part Chesapeake Bay Retriever. He is 3 years old. He is perfect in every way -

Except, of course, if you are drinking water from a plastic bottle. . .

Chester loves water bottles.

First he removes the cap, and then the label.

It is a joyful thing!

The Duchess was so smitten with Chester that she will never forget him. (Ah, love - isn't it grand?) I am not jealous in the least because #1 - I was not there to get my feelings hurt, and #2 - I know she loves me the most and will forever and ever. It's in my contract, you know! :)
So, the Duchess missed me terribly, but she was in good company.

And, in case you are wondering - there was a very good reason why I was not invited along on this trip. At the marina there was a "Stick Family Reunion". We all know how dangerous those things are!!!
(Just ask my friends at Life With Dogs about Mr. Stick.)

I hope you all have a fabulous holiday weekend. WE ARE GOING CAMPING! YAY!

Kisses,

  9. Emma, shhhhhh don't tell your mom this. But I have a secret to share with you. Remember Bonnie? Well her mom and dad had another litter of puppies and they are hopefully going to be surrendered into rescue within the next month. They will be full sisters and brothers to our very own Bonnie. Border Collies with off switches, long silky coats, loving and sweet (and could happily live without herding or livestock). Think that might be a puppy you could get along with? Our mom is going to see them on Monday or Tuesday. She will take pictures and share if your mom is interested.
