And Then There Was One

Emma Rose
12/22/05 - 03/18/20

It is with a heavy heavy heart that I bear this news.  On Wednesday we lost our beautiful, beloved Queen Emma Rose.  There was no warning. We were not prepared emotionally, although we knew someday she would leave us.  She was healthy, bouncy, bubbly and totally normal right up to the last hour of her life.  Losing her was like having our skin peeled off, leaving a full body wound. Healing will take a long time.  Higgins can sense our trauma and he's very uncertain.  So we are lavishing love on him and trying to help each other at the same time.   This will be the final entry on this blog

We know for certain she is prancing around with Bear in Heaven, and Bear has introduced her to Sara, Dinky, Jenna, and Pepper. What a homecoming! I know there are people that don't believe in Heaven, but we know for certain it exists, Jesus is there, and we will be too one day.  Goodbye for now sweet Emma Rose, our little Wiggle-Butt, Girly-Q, Em Dog, and Emmy Doodle.  We will miss you for the rest of our earthly lives.

Happy New Year!

It's ME! Emma Rose!

I know it's been so long you probably don't know if I'm still around, but I am. Still running like the wind at 13 years old.  And I'm still the Queen of my Castle.  The kingdom has changed a bit over time. My subjects come and go, but I am still reigning supreme.

Don't I look stunning with silver furs?  Most of my subjects are green with envy.  Seems everyone wants to be like me. Even the Duchess has silver furs now but she doesn't want me to know so she covers them up most of the time with hair dye!  But I know. After all, the Queen knows everything.

My hearing is not so good anymore though.  Anyway that's what I have them convinced of. Now when they call my name I can just ignore them, unless of course I don't want to.  Food is still my true love and right behind that is my precious Duke.

We have a new member of the family this year and her name is Summer.  Everyone is crazy about her and I don't see what the big fuss is all about.  She was born here in the kingdom last summer and at least she knows her place when the Queen is present.

The video shows the day she arrived at the Castle.

Then, naturally, we still have Louie Lewis and the girls.

Mister Higgins is 9 years old now and he still behaves like a puppy.  He is fun to play with but only when I feel like it.  Otherwise I just ignore him.  He knows who the boss is around here.

Well my friends, I have kept you long enough.  I wish for all of you a very healthy, happy, and prosperous 2019.

Much love and kisses,

Emma Rose

Still Sparkling At Ten

Hello my friends.  Today I celebrate my 10th birthday.
And, if I do say so myself, I'm looking pretty fabulous for my age!
My furs are a smidge more silver as the years go by, but I'm as soft and fluffy as ever.

And I'm still waiting for snow. . .

I'm sure it will come someday.

And Mr. Higgins is still pestering me. He's all grown up now, but he doesn't know it.

We have some new family members.

They don't have names.

But they are fun to watch.

And they think it's fun to watch me too!

Life is grand when you're Queen.

Have a very blessed Christmas!

love,

Emma Rose

Eight Years of Royalty

They say today is my birthday. I don't feel any older, so it must be a mistake.

Cookies?  Oh, YES it must be the Royal Birthday!

I can sit nice if you need me to....

Cookies are a favorite of mine, you know.

Maybe a little silver here and there, but still a Queen.

Guess who else is Eight Years Old today!
The Grand Son!!!
Yes, we were born the same day, and actually we were both born in Washington State.
Isn't life amazing?

Merry Christmas from our Castle to yours.

Kisses,

Emma Rose

The Rainbow Bridge

Sir Bear
June 9, 2000 - May 16, 2013

Our beloved Sir Bear has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives.
He gave us so much.

There is so much to say about this fine gentle dog,
but our hearts are sorely hurting and the words are too fractured.

Run free our sweet boy.  We love you.

Thank you,
from Bear's family.

Greetings From The Castle

You may have forgotten us by now and I apologize for being gone for so long.

Life at the Castle has slowed down a bit.  Sir Bear is still on his feet (well, he does lay down any chance he gets), but we don't know for how long.  The Vet says he is only using his front legs to get around, as there is no muscle left in the back legs.  He uses them for balance, and sometime they slide out from under him and he falls.  He's a good sport though, and gets himself up to try again.  He is full of sweetness, and loves his life and his family, so we think he will still be here for a time.

Mister Higgins is still a goofball.  He lives to chase a ball or Frisbee. *Sigh* Some things never change!

We lost our beautiful Harriet to a predator on December 13th.  She was the 2nd of 3 Hens to leave us.  The Duchess still misses her, and so do I.  She was a special girl.

As for me, well, the furs are changing color here and there.  I keep trying to get an appointment with the gal that fixes the "color problems" for the Duchess, but for some reason she won't return my calls.  I figured if the Duchess can cover up her changing colors, then I should be able to also.

The Duke is a busy man in the Spring.  There is so much to do on the Castle grounds to prepare for Summer.  The greenhouse is filled with seedlings and the raised beds in the garden are prepped for fresh compost.  Three is still much to do but we will all help out and get it done.  The Duchess wants to grow as much of our own food as possible.  And guess what!  We are getting a COW!  No, really! (Won't that just drive Higgins nuts.)  The neighbors want to get a cow too, so we can pasture them together and put a gate between our properties.  The Duchess dreams of having our own milk cow someday, but she knows it will probably always be a dream.

The Duchess has been keeping herself busy too.  She has become an advocate for real food, and has spent much time fighting the evils of GMO's in our food chain.  Needless to say, the food in my Castle has improved tremendously.  Not only that, but the Duchess has learned how to cook and found out that she enjoys it!!!  I know, I know, it does seem impossible, but I swear it's true.

The Grand Daughter has blossomed.

From this youngster. . .

To this young lady. . .

And this year the Grand Son will be 6 years old, and that means he will have his first vacation with us at the Castle!  Oh my - a 6 year old BOY!  You might say a prayer for us :)

Well, my friends, that brings us up to date for now.  I hope you are all well and having a nice Spring.  We have rain, of course, but the sun is just around the bend.

Kisses,
