Guess What I Did Today?

Ever since our trip to Washington last July, the Duchess has been trying to find someone in our area to teach us sheep herding. Finally the Duchess put an ad in a local e-newsletter that is sent out by our little town. And guess what? We made a contact! Today was our first visit to J's house. She has the sheep, the knowledge, and the patience to teach us to work sheep.

Today was an evaluation of sorts. J took me out in the round pen to see what I could do. I didn't bite a single sheep! She was very happy about that :) We went around and around while the Duke and Duchess watched from outside the fence. We passed muster because we are going to start real lessons in two weeks.

The Duke says he is going to come to all the lessons because he doesn't believe the Duchess will ever get out there in the middle of those sheep. (I'm inclined to agree with him. My Duchess is such a sissy!) However, this was all the Duchesses idea. She has a dream you know, it's called her "heart's desire" and this sheep herding thing is part of the puzzle. We will see how it all works out :)

These are the sheep I got to chase, um I mean Herd!
And this is me, getting ready to rumble.

This is me in action with J coaching me.

Look out! Here we come!

This is my favorite picture because I'm coming in along the fence
and that is really stressful, but I did it!!!

We had a great day.
For some reason the sun was shining and it wasn't raining.
Quite a nice surprise :)

Kisses,

  3. That looks like a lot of fun! Mom says to tell the Duchess that sheep are pretty docile and she was around them from the time she was a toddler without ever getting hurt by them. Have fun with your lessons!

  14. You guys are going to have a BLAST! I remember how much talent you have Emma. You made me smile big when I tested you on sheep...what a good girl you were. I remember your momma standing at the fence with her mouth open when you layed down for me too! This makes me so happy that you are going to get real lessons. So, when is your brother Higgens going to be tested on livestock? Hmmmm?

  15. BCxFour,

Mister Higgins just learned how to conquer a standing Kong, I don't think he will be ready for sheep for a good long while. He is really goofy.

    Love,
    Emma Rose
