Camping on Memorial Day - Part 1

The weekend was mostly cloudy, and pretty wet part of the time.  However, there were some sun breaks and we took full advantage of them.  We didn't get to go for as many walks as usual, but we still had a good time.

The first thing Higgins did was claim the bed as his own.  He must have forgotten the rules :)  Don't worry, the Duchess set him straight right away!

While Higgins was claiming the big bed, Sir Bear claimed Mister higgins' bed!  Ha, ha, ha!  That'll teach that young whippersnapper :)

This is the only picture out of about 50, where we are both actually facing the Duchess.  We were far too busy checking all the smells to worry about looking good for the camera.

Remember my friend Friday?  He has really mellowed out over the last year. His sister Jazzy is very much like Higgins. She doesn't like other dogs too much.  Ok, not at all. . .

This is a new friend.  She is 12 years old and her name is Isla.  The Duchess loved her.  (The Duchess loves all of them!)

This little Jack Russell is named Henry.  He is a newcomer this year too.  What a doll.

We have met this beauty before. Her name is Malika.  She really is gorgeous.  Of course, not as beautiful as a Queen, but still very pretty.

Henry was the most friendly towards other dogs. He often had a thoughtful look on his face as if trying to figure out how to get everyone to play with him.

The Duchess took the next two pictures out of the truck window.  The deer were right on the side of the road in the park.  It was awfully nice of them not to run away so she could get some pictures.

This one looks like she may be pregnant.  Yay!  More baby deers :)

This is Isla getting the last drop of beer from her Mom's bottle.  I don't know what beer tastes like but Isla sure seemed to want that droplet!

Next time I will tell you all about the Bat Nursery we saw.  That's where they raise baby Bats.  Really, they do.  And I have some pictures of a horse that we met too.  So, until then . . . . Thanks for stopping by!

I Forgot to Tell You The Duchess was Leaving!

Forgive me, please.  I got so caught up in the whole Royal Wedding Snub that I completely forgot to tell you that the Duchess was leaving.  She packed her suitcase and carefully weighed it (you know the airlines are really picky about that now, AND they charge $20 for the FIRST BAG!)  Anyway, where was I?  Oh yes, the Duchess packed her bag and flew in an airplane to Southern California to visit her family and get out of the rain.  She was gone a very long time. Eight whole days!!!  (You will be happy to know that she sailed through security at the airport.  No X-Ray scanners and no TSA Gropers. Whew!)

The first few days were grey and yucky, but the sun came out after that and it was very nice. One day it got to 75 degrees and the Duchess thought she was going to melt!  Obviously she is not quite ready for summer :)  But Spring is finally upon us here at the Castle and she is grateful for that.  All of us are!

My Peeps are growing like crazy, and now they get to come out of their house into their fenced "yard" whenever it is not raining.  They love it.  Usually I lay by their fence and watch them while Higgins runs around them in circles.

Yesterday the Duke and Duchess were out doing yard work when the Duke came looking for me.  He almost had a heart attack when he found me INSIDE the fenced Chicken yard with my Peeps.  He didn't know that I had a secret way to get inside.  I don't know why he got so excited about it.  My Peeps were just doing their thing and I was feasting upon the delicious droppings to be found on the ground!

Anyway, I got a severe scolding and my feelings were hurt.  I don't think I really did anything bad.  Then, later in the day, I kid you not, the Duke found Mister Higgins INSIDE the fence with the Peeps.  He was having a blast herding and eating Peep Poop. (It is truly a delicacy).  Even the Duchess witnessed it this time.  Both the Duke and Duchess were totally amazed that no Peeps were mauled or even touched by either one of us.  They have so little faith, I tell you! (Either that or they just don't know how addicting Peep Poop is!)  In any case, everyone survived and all is back to normal.  The Duke says before the weekend is over he will have "fixed" the fence around the Peeps yard. :(  Bummer.

I should also tell you that I had to go to the Vet.  I have a sore on my leg and have to put drops on it for two weeks, twice a day.  If I don't lick it I don't have to wear the horrible collar.  My Vet called it the "Happy Hat".  Yeah, right.  I think Vets should have to wear "Happy Hats" all through Vet School!  Then they would not be so anxious to prescribe them for the rest of us.

And. . . . .

One more thing before I go.  I just have to tell you -

WE ARE GOING CAMPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the weather is good there will be lot's of pictures to share.  If it rains we will just take pictures inside :)  There will be 7 dogs and 7 people. Only 5 of the dogs get along, but all of the people do :)

The Royal Wedding from a Queen's Perspective

I am sure you are wondering if I enjoyed the "Royal Wedding".  Well, I didn't go.  That's right.  I did not attend.  Truth be told, I wasn't invited.  I know, I know, it's almost inconceivable.

At first I thought it was a mistake.  You know, an "oversight".  But when I learned that Tony Blair wasn't invited either I KNEW it was an intentional snub.  So - not only did I not go to London for the wedding, I didn't even watch it on the television.  So there Elizabeth!!!

However, I am a warm and loving Queen with a really big heart, especially for young lovers.  So I send my warmest wishes for a long and happy life to the newly married couple.  BUT - you can be certain -
I am not sending a gift!

(At least I got to dust off the Crown Jewels.)

All in a Days Work

I got to go to work with the Duchess.  And here I am waiting patiently at the Post Office while the Duchess goes in to get the mail.

And then I finally got to take a little nap under the desk.  Yes it is messy under there, but that is my favorite place to be.  The Duchess is not too crazy about it though because that is where her feet are supposed to go, and when I'm there it gets pretty cramped :)

Please accept our apologies for the fuzzy pictures. The y were taken with the Duchesses phone :)

Thanks for stopping by!

The Sun Came & Went

We had a nice sunny day so we let the chicks out to play in the fresh air.
They loved it.  They didn't even mind the mud.

This is just a temporary fence.  The Duke is working on the new one.
The new fence has much smaller holes.  It's called chicken wire!
Someone who had chickens invented it to keep their chickens from getting out :)
And that is what we are going to use it for.

Now I would like to introduce you to Harriet.
She is the only one of the girls that has a name.
She got her name because of her "hairy" feet.
Actually her feet are covered with feathers, not hair,
but it looks like she has hairy feet.
None of the other girls have it,
so she is special and we gave her a name.
The Duke said we couldn't name any of them, but we did it anyway.

I love to lay by the fence and watch my peeps.
They do some really silly stuff.

I think they love me. (What's not to love, right?)

Another hard days work behind me.  Being a Queen is sometimes exhausting!

Thanks for stopping by!

The Chicken House

Last night the chickens finally moved into their new house.  And I finally got to walk among my subjects.  The Duchess was scared that I was going to hurt them, but I ended up proving myself.  Truth be told, I don't want to hurt them, I just want to herd them!

The Duchess asked me to send her apologies for the non-stop jabbering during the video.  She was quite a nervouse wreck when the Duke let me into the Hen House!  BOL!!!  Anyway, here's my peeps :)

Thanks for stopping by!

The Royal Scolding

Last night we went down into the Dungeon to check on my girls.  There was a bit of an altercation and the Duchess accused me of trying to bite one of the chicks.  I was crushed that she would think such a thing!  However, after viewing this video on the computer it is plain to see that not only did I not bite the chicken, but the chicken bit me!  My Duchess is falling all over herself trying to apologize :)  I love it when she's wrong.

When you watch the video, keep your eyes on my nose.  If you get distracted and look at Mister Higgins you will miss the "attack".  (After that it's just a bunch of noisy chicks running around.)

Thanks for watching!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Excuse me young lady. Are you supposed to be out of the box?

She's telling Royal Secrets!

Stop peeping or I'll have you for supper!

Dumb chick!

Maybe I should get in there and introduce myself.

Higgins wants you to think he is brave,
but he was shaking in his paws!

He got used to that chicken pretty fast because there was
so much action in the brooder box.
Lot's of noise and feathers!

Twice a day we get to go downstairs to see the girls.
Higgins and I race to see which one of us can get there first.
I still don't like Bear getting too close.
He has that "hunger" in his eyes that a food motivated dog always has.
I keep trying to explain to him, they are going to give us fresh eggs.
We are not going to eat the chickens!
(At least that's what the Duchess says)

Last night we took some action-packed movies,
so hopefully this weekend we can get them posted for you to "enjoy" :)

Thanks for stopping by!
