Greetings From The Castle

You may have forgotten us by now and I apologize for being gone for so long.

Life at the Castle has slowed down a bit.  Sir Bear is still on his feet (well, he does lay down any chance he gets), but we don't know for how long.  The Vet says he is only using his front legs to get around, as there is no muscle left in the back legs.  He uses them for balance, and sometime they slide out from under him and he falls.  He's a good sport though, and gets himself up to try again.  He is full of sweetness, and loves his life and his family, so we think he will still be here for a time.

Mister Higgins is still a goofball.  He lives to chase a ball or Frisbee. *Sigh* Some things never change!

We lost our beautiful Harriet to a predator on December 13th.  She was the 2nd of 3 Hens to leave us.  The Duchess still misses her, and so do I.  She was a special girl.

As for me, well, the furs are changing color here and there.  I keep trying to get an appointment with the gal that fixes the "color problems" for the Duchess, but for some reason she won't return my calls.  I figured if the Duchess can cover up her changing colors, then I should be able to also.

The Duke is a busy man in the Spring.  There is so much to do on the Castle grounds to prepare for Summer.  The greenhouse is filled with seedlings and the raised beds in the garden are prepped for fresh compost.  Three is still much to do but we will all help out and get it done.  The Duchess wants to grow as much of our own food as possible.  And guess what!  We are getting a COW!  No, really! (Won't that just drive Higgins nuts.)  The neighbors want to get a cow too, so we can pasture them together and put a gate between our properties.  The Duchess dreams of having our own milk cow someday, but she knows it will probably always be a dream.

The Duchess has been keeping herself busy too.  She has become an advocate for real food, and has spent much time fighting the evils of GMO's in our food chain.  Needless to say, the food in my Castle has improved tremendously.  Not only that, but the Duchess has learned how to cook and found out that she enjoys it!!!  I know, I know, it does seem impossible, but I swear it's true.

The Grand Daughter has blossomed.

From this youngster. . .

To this young lady. . .

And this year the Grand Son will be 6 years old, and that means he will have his first vacation with us at the Castle!  Oh my - a 6 year old BOY!  You might say a prayer for us :)

Well, my friends, that brings us up to date for now.  I hope you are all well and having a nice Spring.  We have rain, of course, but the sun is just around the bend.

Kisses,
