When Is A Kong Not A Kong?

This is what a Kong looks like, right?
The Duchess puts peanut butter inside the Kong,
freezes it, and then gives us each one as a treat.

But what happens when a Kong looks like this?

And we thought Border Collies were supposed to be smart! Ha!

Guess What I Did Today?

Ever since our trip to Washington last July, the Duchess has been trying to find someone in our area to teach us sheep herding. Finally the Duchess put an ad in a local e-newsletter that is sent out by our little town. And guess what? We made a contact! Today was our first visit to J's house. She has the sheep, the knowledge, and the patience to teach us to work sheep.

Today was an evaluation of sorts. J took me out in the round pen to see what I could do. I didn't bite a single sheep! She was very happy about that :) We went around and around while the Duke and Duchess watched from outside the fence. We passed muster because we are going to start real lessons in two weeks.

The Duke says he is going to come to all the lessons because he doesn't believe the Duchess will ever get out there in the middle of those sheep. (I'm inclined to agree with him. My Duchess is such a sissy!) However, this was all the Duchesses idea. She has a dream you know, it's called her "heart's desire" and this sheep herding thing is part of the puzzle. We will see how it all works out :)

These are the sheep I got to chase, um I mean Herd!
And this is me, getting ready to rumble.

This is me in action with J coaching me.

Look out! Here we come!

This is my favorite picture because I'm coming in along the fence
and that is really stressful, but I did it!!!

We had a great day.
For some reason the sun was shining and it wasn't raining.
Quite a nice surprise :)

The Search For Emma Rose

There came a day when I, having nothing to do but the mundane, became a bit disenchanted with my routine. Being locked inside the castle all these many months had left me filled with wanderlust. So, not having an open door to the outside world, I began my journey on Google.

I wanted to find out about me, of course. Does anyone out in Google-land know about me and my plight? So I typed "Emma Rose" in the little search box and OH MY ROYAL FURNESS!!!

My journey began. . . . .

At first it was exciting. There was your Queen, (that's me), mentioned multiple times for various reasons. But as I travelled further into Google-land I was completely astonished!

There are many, many people, places, and things named after your Queen.
I was humbled . . .

and I was awed . . .

And quite honestly, I was annoyed once or twice!
The only thing I knew for sure that I would find is my namesake. You see, my name was planned long before I came to the castle. In her younger days (long, long ago), the Duchess acquired an album by a folk singer named Kate Wolf. On this album was a very sad song called "Emma Rose". The song was haunting and for some reason moved the Duchess deeply. When I came into her life, in need of a new name, she said "You are my beautiful Emma Rose and you shall be Queen". (I was actually OK with that - especially the Queen part!)
So, on my journey I paused to listen to the haunting song, but wished I hadn't because it made the Duchess cry. (She cries at sad movies too - and even happy movies, so don't worry, she's just like that.)

So, back to my story. . .

I found a designer of fancy dog clothes called Emma Rose Design, and a cupcake business called Emma Rose Cakes. There is a place called Emma Rose Papery that makes lovely paper, and another place called Emma Rose Jewelry with a blog on Blogger!
I found an artist named Emma Rose but could not find pictures of her paintings.
There is a window valance, crib set, Teddy Bear and wall border, all named after me. I even found a necklace, a beautiful rose necklace called the Emma Rose.

There is an author of children's books named after me too! I was so excited that I begged the Duchess to order the books for me.
This one is called "Pumpkin Faces".

by Emma Rose (not me).

And it glows in the dark!

This one is called "Great Gobs of Gum".

also by Emma Rose (nope, not me).

It is a very thin book.
There is also a bedding set fit for a Duchess, and a garden called Emma Rose's Garden.
I found a band called Emma Rose and the Riverboat Scandals - very loud metal and not to my liking if you know what I mean.

And the list goes on and on.

But the most humbling part of my journey was the children. There are so many little girls named Emma Rose! And they are all beautiful. One in particular has touched my heart. She is very young and lives in Indiana. She has a blog - and she has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have added her picture to my sidebar with a link to her site. I am honored to share my name with such a brave little Princess. Her Mom doesn't post very often, but maybe you could visit her and say a little prayer too!

My curious journey into Google-land ended up being something I will never forget. I highly recommend it for a rainy day. You never know what you will find there. (Oh! And did I mention the SAILBOAT?)

Six Months Old

Remember this little puppy?

He is growing up.

He always hoped to grow big and strong like Sir Bear.

Well, he is getting closer every day.

Remember how he followed me around in the beginning?

He still does.

This precious little bundle of puppy breath . . .

Grew up over night.

Our tiny Mister Higgins

Is six months old and counting!

It's amazing how fast the time goes by and how fast they change!
But he is still a Royal Pain!

Playtime, Snacks, and Rest

We had some play time when the rain stopped for awhile.
The Duchess had her camera on the wrong setting almost the whole time,
so please excuse the fuzzy pictures.
We got to run all over the place!

Then we had treats! Yummy hot dog bits!

We were so exhausted after all that fun.
We all took naps.

I'd say that was a pretty nice day!
